Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) is a bleeding disorder associated with other medical and psychiatric issues, such as iron deficiency, anemia, and depression, all with serious negative impact on quality of life. Prophylaxis can be used to treat severe VWD. The challenge is lack of a commonly accepted definition of severe VWD, which can limit the prescription of prophylaxis as a therapeutic intervention. Testing for iron deficiency levels may provide a straightforward diagnostic metric.
